Part 3 Introduction – Managing the Fox in the Hen House

Many have stated that we’ve let the Genie out of the bottle, and there is no way to get it back in again.

This, in many ways, is true. But, the same can be said about any new technology that is introduced into society. How many of us would want a society without cars, airplanes, books, telephones, televisions, washing machines, fridges, …

It isn’t so much about trying to find a way back to ‘the good old days’, but more about finding a way to make the digital technology work well for us as a society and as individuals.

This is as true for adults as it is for children and teens. We need to find better ways to manage our digital technology use that enhances our working and personal lives and mitigate the harmful effects that too much of the wrong type of use can have on our wellbeing.

In the final part of this series, we will be looking at the impact that work-based technology use has on us as individuals, as part of a family unit and at an organisational level.

Each chapter will provide hints and tips on how to empower ourselves as individuals in building greater levels of resilience and focus to ensure a better balance between work, home and play.
